“Your hard work, skill and unwavering determination have brought pride to the nation. Kenya stands behind you as you aim for continental glory-go for gold, champions!” those were the words of Kenya Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya to the Kenya Under-20 women’s volleyball team after they defeated Egypt 3-0(25-19,25-19,25-23) on Sunday evening to qualify for the final that will be played on Monday.
Mvurya flagged off the junior Malkia Strikers before they left for the host nation last Friday at the Talant Plaza building in Nairobi.
Kenya will play the winner of the second semi-final pitting Cameroon and Senegal in the final.
Kenya Volleyball Federation Deputy President Paul Bitok said, “We wish the girls and the technical team all the best tomorrow as they face the winner between Cameroon and Senegal. We believe in your talent, teamwork and fighting spirit-bring the trophy home!”
Directorate of Criminal Investigation team manager Neddy Nelimo said, “This was stunning…. kudos our champs. Iam super proud of you young queens,”
KVF president Charles Nyaberi said, “Congratulations to the junior Malkia for blanking Egypt 3-0 to romp into the final and assure themselves of a slot in the Under-20 World Championship! Congratulations Junior Malkias,”
Former Malkia Strikers libero Mildred Odwako lauded Barasa saying she was proud of her.
Mutai Cheruiyot said, “A steady coach…. nit easily cowed. And given she hasn’t been with these players much… congrats Barasa,”
