The pair of the Elphas Makuto and Jairus Kipkosgei were eliminated from the ongoing CAVB African Continental Championship at Martil beach in Tetouan, Morocco yesterday.
Makuto and Kipkosgei who were drawn in pool ‘G’ lost to Ghana pair of Paul Akan and Abdul Ibrahim 2-0 (21-23,5-21) yesterday having lost their opening match against Nigeria pair of Augustine Uche and Peter Jasper 2-0(18-21,15-21) on Wednesday.
Makuto and Kipkosgei will now play classification matches, while the pair of Brian Melly and Wilson Waibei who had won 2-0(21-14,21-15) against Burundi duo of Dan Ishimwe and Diamel Ndayisaba on Wednesday and were scheduled to take on Morocco duo of El Graoui and llyas Lazaar in pool “A”.
The top team in each pool proceed to the Round of 16 while the remaining two teams will square out in round of 24 for a place in Round of 16.
In the women’s category the pair Olympian Gaudencia Makokha and Sharleen Maywa and Veronica Adhiambo and Mercy Iminza qualified for the Round 16.
Makokha and Maywa won against Nigerian pair Genevive Kelechi and Happy Wushilang 2-1(31-33,21-17,4-4).
Makokha and Maywa were set to play Lizza Bonne and Juanita from Mauritius yesterday in pool “D”.
Veronica Adhiambo and Mercy Iminza won against Burundian Nadia Buntubwimana and Marie Igiraneza 2-0(21-14,21-14) before they lost their second match against Nigerian pair of Esther Mbah and Pamela Bawa 0-2(18-21,118-21) in pool “B”.
