Kenya volleyball stars are flocking Rwanda in time for the Genocide Memorial tournament set to serve off on June 20-22 at Petit Stade indoor gymnasium.
The annual volleyball tournament is organised by Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) in collaboration with the National Olympic Committee as part of commemoration of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Among the players who have flocked respective Rwandese clubs are creme del creme Sarah Namisi,Pamela Adhiambo, Sharon Chepchumba and Violet Makuto.
Namisi from Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Makuto will turn up for Kepler Volleyball Club, while Adhiambo and Chepchumba will play for Patriotic Army of Rwanda as Marlyne Terry from KCB Women’s Volleyball Team will join Meldina Sande at Rwanda Police.
There will be no Kenyan women’s representatives at the three-day event after Kenya Pipeline pulled out of the event due to logistics.
The Chema and Kenya Ports Authority will be Kenyan representatives in the men’s category.
Police (men) and APR (women) volleyball clubs triumphed, claiming the 2024 volleyball Genocide Memorial Tournament after edging Gisagara and Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) respectively in the finals.
