Experienced Kenya Prisons opposite hitter Lydia Maiyo says their path was clear for them to qualify for the Kenya Volleyball Federation National League finals.
Maiyo who joined the wardress in 2007 says unlike the last two seasons where their path to the finals was tricky, she said this season, they have a smooth sailing.
Kenya Prisons last won the title in 2021.
“Things are looking up and we are hopeful of winning our semi-final against DCI to book a place in the final set for next month. We have trained well, and the players are raring to go,” said Maiyo, sibling to former Kenya international Phillip.
Maiyo also threw a jab at the upcoming players who she said that they lack basics saying they only know how to spike.
“I think coaches at the school level are failing at some point. They are not teaching players the basics and so, these upcoming players are not good with basics, and they are just keen to spike not knowing that volleyball is not all about spiking, but they are other factors that contribute to the discipline,” said the former Lugulu Girls High school player.
