Few minutes after landing at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday from Seychelles, Jane Wacu made her way to Kasarani Stadium, indoor arena to pay her tribute to her friend the late Janet Wanja during a memorial service.
Wacu said it was difficult mourning Wanja away from home.
“When i got the news that Wanja was sick, i told her brother Kim to tell Wanja to wait for me. I could not get a flight here as they were fully booked. I tried to contact her through calls and messages, but she didn’t reply. I I lost it. I’m hurt. I have lost a best friend, roommate, mentor, look alike. There are things we shared on and off the court and i hope that i will tell you even in death. Please say something to me even if in dream,” an emotional Wacu said.
Wanja died on December 26 at her home in Kasarani,Nairobi after a brave battle with gall bladder cancer.
Wanja will be laid to rest on January 3 at the Lang’ata Cemetary Nairobi.
Before her untimely death, Wanja was Kenya women’s volleyball team, malkia strikers trainer.
