Kenyatta University (KU) men’s volleyball team is like a river that never runs dry with churning out talent.
And the man behind this development is coach Vitalis Ojukwu.
Ojukwu says that it’s give him pleasure and joy if he nurtures talents and the players are scouted by other coaches from established clubs.
Ojukwu said this has he revealed that two of his players in middle blocker Boaz Odour and utility player Emmanuel Misiko sibling to General Service Unit middle blocker Shadrack have crossed over to Kenya Army.
“My joy is to see my players crossing over to the big clubs. This gives me satisfaction that I’m doing something right. Mine is to nurture the talents,” said Ojukwu.
Fast-rising Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) setter Stephen Otieno is among Ojukuw’s product.
KU will be making their second appearance in the Division Two League that gets underway on Friday at the Nyayo National Stadium handball and volleyball outside courts in Nairobi.
The varsity side will square it out with Simlaw on Friday, take on Central Police on Saturday before they play Chema Steel on Sunday and Ojukwu was optimistic of bagging maximum points.
“Last season we finished eighth in the 10- team League, and this time round we want to improve on the performance. We don’t want to go ahead of ourselves and say we will qualify for the National League this season, but we are work in progress and definitely in future we would be eyeing the slot to the top tier,” said Ojukwu.
“We have not played our opponents before but we have played with various players from these teams and so we will wait and see how it, some of these players are my products and i will be out to see how they turn up for their respective clubs,” concluded the tactician
