International volleyball referee and Deaf men and women’s Volleyball teams coach Agnes Masalange says the team was in the National League to learn and pick valuable lessons ahead of next year’s Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo, Japan.
Masalange who coaches both the men and women’s deaf teams said the men’s side has a better chance of defying odds and causing surprises in the Kenya Volleyball Federation Division Two League that takes centre stage next week on Friday through to Sunday at the handball and volleyball courts outside Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium, Nairobi.
“The men’s side is really good, while the women’s team is also coming up well. As much as we don’t have sponsors, the players go out of their way to come for training at the University of Nairobi grounds on weekends and that is a sacrifice that I really value, and appreciate” said Masalange.
“Again sometimes it’s hard to come up with a quorum considering these players are drawn from various counties across the nation. We are reaching out to well wishes to help these players achieve their dreams by supporting them in every little way possible. But all in all we are determined to leave a mark” added Masalange.
Deaf volleyball will start their League campaign against Pamoja Tujenge on Friday before squaring it out with Kenya Navvy on Saturday.
They will then wrap up the weekend with a match against Vihiga Volleyball team on Sunday.
