Defending Champions Kenya Prisons are yet to complete a hat-trick of titles in the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Men’s League.
But skipper Jairus Kipkosgei thinks 2024/25 may well be the season the Wardens will “break the duck”.
“Our goal for the season is to retain the men’s league title and achieve the elusive hattrick. If you look back at our performance, we have never won a hattrick. So who knows? This may well be the season to break the jinx,” Kipkosgei dared to dream.
Kipkosgei candidly admits that their showdown with the team in Nyeri, more so, KPA at Nyeri’s Kamukunji Grounds wasn’t a walk in the pack.
Prisons beat Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 25-23, and 25-23), before decimating a stubborn Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) 3-2 (22-25, 25-18, 25-14, 23-25 and 15-11).
“We knew KPA would come hard at us. The matches we played in Nyeri were difficult. We played tough matches this weekend, but we thank God we emerged victorious. Kenya Prions is the team to beat in the league and all our opponents play us as if it’s a Cup final. So it’s never that easy, being a champion, you have to raise your bar higher,” Kipkosgei said in finality.
