National Champions Prisons Kenya extended their impressive start to the 2024/2025 Kenya Volleyball Federation season in day two action at the Kamukunji Grounds in Nyeri County.
The Dan Mokua charges saw off Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 3-1 in a pulsating fixture that was graced by hundreds of fans from both sides of the divide. They won by sets of (25-20, 24-26, 25-23, and 25-23). In yet another enticing fixture in the afternoon, Prisons showcased a valiant display to overcome a stubborn Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) 3-2 (22-25, 25-18, 25-14, 23-25 and 15-11).
Speaking after the victory, head coach Dan Mokua said: “I am over the moon after winning today’s fixtures against some of the toughest opponents in the league. It is always a positive thing when you start the season on the right foot. It is my hope that the boys will continue with the same momentum going into the next rounds.”
Morning action also saw entertaining fixtures where Trailblazers dismantled Kenya Army 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, and 26-24). Equity Bank on the other hand proved too superior to Mt. Kenya Baseyetu after cruising 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, and 25-23) past the boys from the mountain. In other results, Prisons Rift Valley won 3-1 (27-25, 25-17, 16-25, and 25-21) over KAPU.
In the ladies’ category, Kenya Prisons and Kenya Pipeline dominated their opponents in their respective matches. Prisons won 3-0 (25-8, 25-9, and 25-5) against Young Spikers while Kenya Pipeline demolished Postbank 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 32-30). In other results, Kenya Army brushed away Vihiga Volleyball 3-0 (27-25, 25-17, 25-16) while detectives DCI won 3-0 (25-2, 25-5, 25-3) over Maranatha.
