“I have been there before, and I know how it feels. It’s not easy but with God on your side you will pull through “ former Malkia Strikers captain Mercy Moim assured Janet Wanja’s mother Sarah of the volleyball fraternity support.
Moim said this during the memorial service of Wanja on Thursday at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani indoor arena, Nairobi.
Wanja,Malkia Strikers trainer died last Thursday at her home surrounded by family after battle with gall bladder cancer.
Moim lost her husband mid last year.
“We will purpose to visit your home in Nakuru whenever we get time. You took us as your family and we will remain that, your family. Wanja was hardworking and meant what she said. For example, when she fed you the ball one or twice and you didn’t make a side out, she will deny you the ball until another rotation was made. She wanted to win. She welcomed me in the team after my secondary school at Cheptil. She was my assistant captain at some point and I was also her captain at some point,” said Moim who plays KCB Women’s Volleyball Team in the National League.
Wanja will be buried at the Lang’ata Cemetery, Nairobi on January 3.
