Simlaw men’s volleyball team has one goal as they make a maiden appearance in the Kenya Volleyball Federation Division Two League this Friday, to finish in the top two positions and qualify for the top tier.
Simlaw coach and former Kenya Forest Service, Blue Triangle and Nairobi Prisons player Japheth Kimtai said that the team has what it takes to go for the title.
“We saw it fit to field the team in the League after numerous wins in the Mtaa Tournaments across the country. But what gave us morale to register is our win during the Kenya Communication Sports Organisation (KECOSO) in August in Nakuru,” said the former setter.
“The management has been supportive and we hope we will repay them with good performance. It’s that performance that will help us have the foundation of having a women’s team in future. But first, the men’s side has to to rise to the occasion,” Kimtai added.
The team was formed in 2017 and trains at the Baba Ndogo grounds, Nairobi.
Simlaw will tackle Kenyatta University on Friday, take on Engineers the following day before they complete their weekend with a clash against Kenya Airforce on Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium handball and volleyball courts in Nairobi.
Kimtai thanked the management for securing a place for the team to train.
“Previously we haven’t been able to train together as team since most of the players are away at work, while the few that are unemployed, didn’t have a place to train and so we are grateful to the management. We can now train freely unlike when we didn’t train and only attended open tournaments on Sunday,” said Kimtai.
